Process PSD: Matilda Caskett by Robaato Process PSD: Matilda Caskett by Robaato
I don't do this often, but a lot of people have been asking about my process for coloring in :iconautodesk-sketchbook:. So, I've decided to provide you all with a PSD, in full resolution, of the layer order that I use.

CLICK DOWNLOAD TO THE RIGHT TO DOWNLOAD THE PSD AND CHECK IT OUT!

Note that by default, it's a Photoshop Document, so you can open it in PS with no problem, as Sketchbook uses the same blending modes from PS. But in Sketchbook Pro, you're limited as to what you can do when it comes to layer blending modes, as Sketchbook only has 3 of them (Multiply, Add, and Screen), so I have to color a bit different than my norm. But working with limitations and experimenting is good & definitely fun anyway, and mainly the reason I enjoy coloring in Sketchbook Pro so much!

So you can see my process of coloring in the software and study it and break things down for whatever you want to do, either in SBP or Photoshop or SAI or whatever software you like to use as it's pretty universal tech.

Deuces! Oh yeah! Megaman Legends have been on my brain a lot lately, and I always liked Matilda's design a lot! Actually, Ishikawa is a true senpai of mine. Wish there was more of his work out there beyond his Megaman stuff. :(

Thanks for the process download. Really interesting. Opens right up in Manga Studio 5 for those of us without Photoshop.

What brushes do you use in Sketchbook Pro for coloring?

:iconrobaato:

Default brushes that come with the program. I also tweaked them a bit for my own personal use. Play around with em to see what works for you! :)

Wait, so...you generally use Sketchbook? Or Photoshop? I'm confused...

Still, this looks really neat!

I use both, lol. On my more experimental/break pieces, I like to play with Sketchbook Pro, which is what you see here. On my main stuff, I tend to use Photoshop.

Ah, I get'cha. I JUST got Sketchbook since I tried it out and saw how incredibly easy it was to use :) a long time ago, I only had MS Paint, so I remember what it was like to have a program with limitations, though sometimes those limitations can inspire some really incredible art. Plus it'll be a good thing to use while I try out this tablet I got too.

XD Well, I went from MS Paint, to Gimp, to Photoshop, and now Sketchbook. I just wanted a program that was much cheaper than Photoshop, lol.
