Descendant of the Celestials by Robaato Descendant of the Celestials by Robaato
Commission for :icondrofdemonology: of his character for his Planescape novel, Ceraline Ambrosia Oceanus.

Had fun with this one, had to plug into my concept/character design systems to crank this one out.

Sword is made of obsidian and snowflake obsidian, interesting concoction of material...

Legend of Mana OST. Nice. :D

Also, excellent piece!

How is the Cintiq, BTW? I'm thinking my next comp-tar investment will be a new tablet, so I'm feeling around for recommendations.

Looks really good. I especially like her distinct looking face; it looks like it was inspired by someone real as opposed to the typical way you draw faces (which isn't a bad way, of course). The coloring is phenomenal of course and the design of her outfit is very strong. The only thing bugging me is the way she's holding the sword. It doesn't look like it's resting on anything so it comes off as if she's merely holding it suspended like that, which would be uncomfortable even if the sword were lightweight.

Well, Ceraline wouldn't be holding the sword like that for more than a few seconds anyway ;)

Thanks, J! :)

She's supposed to be some angel descendant or something and have great strength.

But even if that wasn't the case, she could also be *not* in a "pose" where she's just holding the sword stationary. This could be a shot captured in movement (as if she's slinging the sword back or bringing it forth) and considering the fact that this is a fantasy character, things applied in this picture in reality can't be applied in fiction. (*cough* Cloud Strife *cough*). XD

That's just beautiful beyond belief... I have no idea how dense snowflake obsidian is, but if there's something to criticize about this creation, I'd say that that's a quite difficult pose to hold a heavy looking sword like that with such ease.

But overall, magnificent job, your dedication to self improvement is really inspiring.

Obsidian is basically volcanic glass, so it's not too heavy. Plus the blade has three holes in it, decreasing weight. Lastly, the blade is highly magical and made to be easier to weild :)

And Ceraline wouldn't be holding the sword like that for more than a few seconds anyway ;)

Nice work. She looks awesome. I wonder about the strength of a snowflake obsidian sword though... (I work with it in jewelry making a lot and it chips and breaks pretty easily.)

Very nice work. Good detail in the outfit and colors.
Obsidian is a dark black, and snowflake obsidian is usually a dark black with white spots though...

It is a deeper black; in this specific version of the image though, the glow offsets it a LOT.
