The color your using is not just lighter, but bluer. Red licorice is a very pure red, so playing with the hue takes that 'pop' out of it. Red is also close to the compliment for her mint-colored clothes so taking it cooler makes those colors synergize a little less.
Photoshop will never fake colors; I color with lighting in mind. Before I applied the tint, it was more of a pure red. You should check out my PSDs when you get the chance. That specific pinkish color wasn't picked, the lighting/hue tint altered is what I'm saying. (You can also see that tint in her shoes and hair, as it's not a pitch black, but dark bluish).
There will always be another time to draw her with regular lighting.
